The first meeting, held in Istanbul on 21–23 June 2014, brought together visually impaired Quran reciters and representatives from 15 countries; our Union was officially established with this meeting.

The 1st International Braille Quran Meeting, organized by the International Union of Braille Quran Services (IBQS), was held in Istanbul on 21–23 June 2014. Organized with the contributions of the Istanbul Metropolitan Municipality Directorate for Persons with Disabilities and the IHH Humanitarian Relief Foundation, the event brought together visually impaired Quran reciters and experts from all over the world.

Visually impaired reciters and representatives from 15 countries, including Türkiye, Palestine, Yemen, Egypt, Jordan, Saudi Arabia, South Africa, England, Malaysia, Indonesia, Pakistan, India and Iran, took part in the event at the Çobançeşme Cultural Center. The recitation of the Quran by Muhammed Islah, a visually impaired hafiz from Thailand, gave the participants moving moments at the opening.

Speaking at the opening ceremony, Selahattin Aydın, Chairman of the Board of the Union, emphasized that the Quran was sent not to a particular group but to all of humanity. He noted that the needs of the majority had been prioritized in the building of civilizations, which at times left visually impaired people outside the system, and described the meeting as a historic step towards removing barriers among Muslims and raising social awareness.

With this meeting, the International Union of Braille Quran Services was officially established.
