Brief Story
In February 2013, organisations from 13 countries were invited to Istanbul by Selahattin Aydin of Turkiye to attend the 1st International Conference on Braille Quran. The aim of the conference was to discuss the methods of improving Braille Quran literacy, primarily through the unification of the Quranic braille code and the distribution of braille Qurans to all blind Muslims in the world, wherever they may be.
At the conference, the delegates have decided to form an international umbrella organization that brings together the local organizations providing accessible Islamic services in different regions of the world. In August 2013, the delegates of the 1st International Conference on Braille Quran came together once again to prepare the status of the organization and other official documents Required for establishment application to authorities. By the decision of the Council of Ministers of the Republic of Turkiye on 24 April 2014, alhamdulillah a new NGO was formed called the International Union of Braille Quran Services (IBQS) registered in Istanbul, Turkiye.
